a day of {firsts}

saturday was a big day for me.  it was the first time i'd ever run a 10K and the first time i ever made sushi!

the northwest florida ballet company's annual resolution run was my very first actual 5k that i ran in 3 years ago (the first 5k i EVER did was march for misty....a run to benefit a beautiful girl i went to high school with who lost her battle with cancer about 2 weeks after the race.  the shirt i wore on saturday was from that race.  misty's race is what inspired me to start running in the first place!).  there were so few people there that year that i actually ended up being 3rd place in my age division (which was sad since i walked a large portion of the 3.1 miles!).  so, i wanted it to be my first 10k as well.  my sweet friend rhonda came with me since she'd been doing the couch-to-5k training and wanted to run in a race for the first time.

race:  the NWF ballet resolution run 10k
date:  january 19, 2013
distance:  6.2 miles
time:  1 hour 7 minutes
rhonda clocked in at 36 minutes for her 5k which was a personal best for her!!
 now that i know that i can actually make it through 6.2 miles with not stops and not perish....i'm looking forward to doing it again!  my ultimate goal is to do the disney princess half marathon one day.  we'll see ;)
later on saturday night i went to a friend's house for a sushi making party.  we had a BLAST!  and special thanks to youtube for the videos that showed step-by-step instructions on how to roll those bad boys.

 we had sushi grade tuna, smoked salmon, crab meat, and shrimp.  pat even made that amazing orange sauce (apparently it's called dragon sauce....either way, it's my FAVORITE!) to pour on the rolls.
we made piles and piles of sushi.  y'all, i have never EVER willingly stopped eating sushi.  usually when we go out to eat, i stop because a.) i'm starting to embarass myself with the sheer volume of food i'm consuming or b.) i've run out of money.  but on saturday night, we all stopped because we couldn't physically eat another bite.  that rice expands!!!  ;)

my mom and me (notice she's trying to sneak my sushi!)

in spite of being stuffed to the gills with delicious homemade sushi, we threw down on some just dance 3 & 4 for awhile.  such a fun evening with some fun ladies.  i laughed until my face hurt and danced until my feet hurt (well, until they hurt even worse.  the 10k was starting to have an effect on my legs at this point!!).

so here's to trying new things and neither of them killing me!  ;)

Yeah for the 10K!!! Awesome job. The sushi making looks fun. I tried it once...blech. But I'm glad you like it!!!

Creating the sushi was a long time goal of mine and the evening was such a blast because of the people. Beth is a keeper for sure!!! The sushi was amazing and now we have a list of dos and donts for next time.
And not that it matters... but it was Dance Central - not just dance (xbox snob... le sigh!)

Yipee! I am uber, uber proud of you on the 10k thing. The sushi too, but mostly the running!
